The Texas A&M University-Victoria softball team is ready for a big week.
Riding a season-high six-game winning streak, the Jaguars (20-10, 11-4) are back at home to host No. 21-ranked Texas A&M-Texarkana in a three-game series at the Victoria Youth Sports Complex this Thursday and Friday. Thursday's doubleheader is slated for 4 p.m. while Friday's series finale is scheduled for 12 p.m.
A&M-Victoria has scored in double digits in each of their last four games after completing a series sweep of University of the Southwest last week. During this current winning streak, the Jaguars have outscored their opponents 61-31.
Offensively, the Jaguars are hitting .429 with 55 RBIs as a team during the winning streak.
A&M-Victoria enters the weekend in fourth place in the Red River Athletic Conference, just two games behind the Eagles (26-7, 13-2) and LSU Alexandria who are tied for second.
Player of the Week
A&M-Victoria saw its fifth Jaguar honored in the RRAC weekly awards this week with Angelina Morales earning Player of the Week.
The junior from Pasadena, Texas, went 8-for-11 (.727) at the plate last week vs. USW with three doubles and nine RBIs. She joins Alyssa Carter and Madison Carr as the only other Jaguars to win the offensive recognition.
Morales is riding a six-game hitting streak, which has seen her hit .571 with 13 RBIs during that time. This season, she's hitting a team-leading .430 with 29 RBIs, nine doubles, two triples and a home run.
Her RBIs rank second in the RRAC currently.
You get a hit, you get a hit
In the series against USW, the Jaguars racked up 36 hits across the three games.
Ten different players picked up hits for A&M-Victoria last week with Morales and Carter each posting eight hits.
Carr, Khamryn Werdlow, Emily Mayo, Kitty Coe and Deeandra Maldonado also had multi-hit series for the Jaguars as they hit .450 as a team last week.
Carter and Werdlow each had four stolen bases, as well.
Strong outing
Zoe Hardy had a stellar performance her last time out in the pitcher's circle.
The Walla Walla, Washington, native came on for 6.2 innings of relief in the Jaguars' 16-8 win in Game 1 vs. USW. The sophomore went on to strike out a career-high 10 batters to help seal the win.
In 14 games this season, Hardy boasts an 8-3 record with a 3.18 ERA and a team-leading 49 strikeouts.
Scouting A&M-Texarkana
The Eagles also come into this weekend riding a win streak after sweeping Texas College and Dallas Christian last week.
A&M-Texarkana is hitting .350 as a team this season while their pitching staff boasts a 2.37 ERA.
All-time, A&M-Texarkana leads the series between the two schools 17-9.
