A&M-Victoria softball continues offensive surge to sweep USW, earn sixth-straight win
HOBBS, NM -- The Texas A&M University–Victoria softball team continued its torrid offensive stretch Saturday afternoon, sweeping a doubleheader from the University of the Southwest with a pair of 10–5 victories at Baker Field.
The three-game series sweep marked the Jaguars' sixth straight win and their fourth consecutive game scoring double-digit runs, as A&M-Victoria (20-10, 11-4) piled up 30 hits and 20 runs across the two games.
Across the doubleheader, the Jaguars were led by a balanced offensive attack.
Madison Carr finished the day a combined 6-for-6 with eight RBIs, while Emily Mayo went 5-for-8 with three RBIs and four runs scored. Deeandra Maldonado added four RBIs and multiple extra-base hits, and Angelina Morales drove in five runs across both games.
In the circle, Haley Noska, Kailea Freeman, Madelyn Butler and Keira Reis combined to limit Southwest to 10 runs despite aggressive base traffic.
Game 1
A&M-Victoria erased an early deficit and pulled away for a 10–5 victory in the opener after Southwest scored four runs in the second inning. The Jaguars answered immediately and seized control with a four-run fourth inning.
Angelina Morales opened the scoring in the first with a two-run single to give A&M-Victoria an early lead. After Southwest answered, the Jaguars responded in the fourth with RBI hits from Madison Carr, Khamryn Werdlow and Alyssa Carter, along with a sacrifice fly from Morales to reclaim the lead at 6–4.
The offense continued to apply pressure as Deeandra Maldonado and Morales delivered run-scoring doubles in the fifth and sixth innings. Kailea Freeman added a late RBI double in the seventh to cap the scoring.
Morales finished the opener 2-for-3 with four RBIs, while Carter and Werdlow each collected two hits. Freeman earned the win in relief, throwing 5.2 innings with three strikeouts, and Butler worked 1.1 innings as the starter.
Game 2
The Jaguars carried their momentum into Game 2, using consistent pressure at the plate and a decisive five-run third inning to secure another 10–5 win and complete the sweep.
After a scoreless start, A&M-Victoria struck first in the third. Alyssa Carter delivered a two-run single, followed by a sacrifice fly from Morales to build a 3–0 lead. Southwest briefly cut into the advantage, but the Jaguars answered with a four-run fifth inning highlighted by RBI hits from Kitty Coe, Maldonado and Emily Mayo, along with a two-run single from Madison Carr.
Carr continued her dominant day in the seventh inning with another RBI single, while Werdlow added a sacrifice fly to finish the scoring. Carr ended the game 3-for-3 with four RBIs, and Mayo went 3-for-4 with two doubles.
The Jaguars totaled 11 hits and drew six walks, consistently forcing Southwest's pitching staff into extended innings.
Haley Noska earned the win, tossing six innings with six strikeouts, while Reis closed the game in the seventh.

A&M-Victoria returns home for a three-game series against No. 21-ranked Texas A&M-Texarkana next Thursday and Friday at the Victoria Youth Sports Complex. First pitch for Thursday's doubleheader is slated for 4 p.m. while Friday will be a noon game.
