Madison Carr's number was called Friday for the Texas A&M University-Victoria softball team. Twice.
The junior from Texas City delivered a pair of walk-off hits in the bottom of the seventh inning in A&M-Victoria's 6-5 and 7-6 wins over rival Texas A&M-San Antonio at the Victoria Youth Sports complex on Friday, Feb. 27.
Both hits, a double in Game 1 and a single in Game 2, came as A&M-Victoria showed resilience to claw back for a pair of wins after seeing a two-run lead wiped away by A&M-San Antonio in the seventh inning of each game.
Thanks to the clutch hitting, A&M-Victoria extended its winning streak to six games while improving to 12-2 overall and 5-0 in Red River Athletic Conference play.
Game 1
The Jaguars totaled 15 hits in Game 1, led by Emily Mayo, who went 3-for-3 with a double and three RBIs.
Mayo's two-run double down the left-field line in the third erased an early 1-0 deficit and ignited a three-run stretch. Kitty Coe added two hits and an RBI, while Alyssa Carter finished 3-for-4 with an RBI single in the fourth.
TAMUSA tied the game at five in the top of the seventh on a two-run double to right with two outs.
But Fayth Hoover singled to open the bottom half and Carr followed with a double to left, scoring Hoover for the decisive run.
Zoe Hardy earned the complete-game victory, allowing five runs — four earned — on 10 hits with three strikeouts. The win moved the Walla Walla, Washington, native to a perfect 5-0 in the circle.
Game 2
A&M-Victoria completed the sweep by scoring three runs in the sixth followed by Carr's second walk-off in the seventh.
Alyssa Carter sparked the offense, going 2-for-3 with three runs scored and two RBIs, including a game-tying RBI single in the sixth. Angelina Morales finished 2-for-4 with two RBIs, delivering a two-run single later in the sixth to give the Jaguars a 6-4 lead. Cristela Trevino added two hits and two RBIs.
After TAMUSA rallied to tie the game at six on a two-run single in the seventh, the Jaguars answered in the bottom half. Kitty Coe singled and later, her pinch runner Taylor Allen, scored when Carr lined an RBI single to left to seal the win.
Kailea Freeman picked up the win – the first of her career – coming on for one inning of relief.
