A&M-Victoria softball sweeps Texas College thanks to run-rule
TYLER – The Texas A&M University-Victoria softball team capped its Red River Athletic Conference-opening series in style on Saturday.
The Jaguars earned a 21-1 run-rule win over Texas College to complete the series sweep thanks to a season-high output in runs and hits (20). Texas College forfeited the non-conference end of what was supposed to be a doubleheader.
A&M-Victoria (10-2, 3-0) saw 11 different players pick up hits in the win, which was the team's fifth win via the run-rule. The Jaguars are now 47-0 all-time against Texas College.
Fast & Furious 10
The Jaguars wasted no time Saturday, driving in 10 runs in the top of the first inning after sending 15 batters to the plate.
Cristela Trevino opened the scoring with an RBI single four batters in. The Alice native finished the day 3-for-3 with three RBIs, including a two-run home run, to help set the pace for A&M-Victoria's offense.
Kitty Coe delivered the biggest highlight of the first inning with a three-run home run to center field, the first career homer for the freshman from Kountze.
RBIs from Alyssa Carter, Khamryn Werdlow and Madison Carr helped the Jaguars jump out quickly to the insurmountable lead.
Key contributors
A&M-Victoria also saw Kelsey Perez deliver three RBIs off the bench, going 2-for-2 at the plate.
Freshmen Braylyn Galloway and Evelyn Tovar also picked up RBIs in the win, the first of their careers.
Sophomore Zoe Hardy went the distance Saturday, striking out four batters while allowing just one run on four hits and a walk across five innings of work. The Walla Walla, Washington, native is now 4-0 in the circle.
