Boonsrirat's career-best finish, Simon's 69 paces A&M-Victoria men's golf to third at Texarkana Invitational
TEXARKANA, Texas — A strong final‑round charge and two top‑10 finishes lifted the Texas A&M University–Victoria men's golf team to a third‑place showing this week at the Texarkana Invitational at Texarkana Country Club.
A&M‑Victoria posted rounds of 325–324–289—937, saving its best golf for Tuesday with one of the lowest team rounds of the tournament. The Jaguars' 289 was the second‑best score of the day and propelled them well clear of the next‑closest Red River Athletic Conference program, host Texas A&M–Texarkana, by 16 shots. They led the field in pars with 144 across and tied for the second-most birdies with 26 across the three rounds.
Leading the effort was Lucky Boonsrirat, who delivered the strongest performance of his collegiate career by finishing tied for second at 13‑over.
Boonsrirat posted rounds of 77, 78 and 74, maintaining a spot near the top of the leaderboard throughout the tournament. His final round included steady par play across both nines, keeping him in the medalist conversation and securing a career‑best finish for A&M‑Victoria.
Florian Simon added the most dynamic round of the week for the Jaguars, firing a three‑under‑par 69 on Tuesday—the lowest score recorded by any golfer in the final round. Simon jumped 17 places on the leaderboard, finishing tied for 13th after earlier rounds of 82 and 87. His final‑round surge featured composed ball‑striking on the front nine and timely birdies on the back, capping one of the most impressive single‑day climbs of the tournament.
Brandon Gratton earned a top‑10 finish of his own, tying for ninth after rounds of 82, 79 and 76. Gratton's final round included two birdies and several key par saves that helped solidify A&M‑Victoria's strong closing total. Paul Chopin tied for 19th with rounds of 84, 80 and 77, bouncing back from a challenging opening round to contribute steady scoring down the stretch. Ethan Armendarez closed out the Jaguars' lineup with rounds of 84, 83 and 75 to place 25th.
A&M‑Victoria also shined statistically, finishing tied for second in birdies with 26 and first in total pars with 144. The Jaguars ranked first in par‑3 scoring and second in par‑4 scoring, showcasing a balanced approach on two of the most demanding scoring categories across the field. The team also finished third in par‑5 scoring.
The third‑place finish, backed by a season‑best team round and one of the program's strongest individual showings of the year, gives A&M‑Victoria momentum as it continues through the spring schedule.
