A&M-Victoria's Smith named RRAC Baseball Player of the Week
WACO – Texas A&M University–Victoria first baseman Garrett Smith has been named the Red River Athletic Conference Player of the Week after delivering one of the most productive offensive stretches of the Jaguars' season.
He becomes the fifth A&M-Victoria player honored by the conference this year and the first Jaguar to earn the league's weekly offensive award.
Smith posted a scorching .520 batting average over five games last week, going 13-for-25 at the plate with eight runs scored and 10 RBIs. His power surge included five doubles, one triple and two home runs, producing an eye‑catching 1.040 slugging percentage and .556 on‑base percentage. The junior infielder's performance helped the Jaguars extend their strong March run, capped by a three‑game sweep of Xavier (LA) to move A&M-Victoria's win streak to an NAIA-leading 11 games.
Smith opened the week with a two-hit outing and an RBI in a 20–14 road win over NCAA Division I Texas Southern on March 17. He followed with a four-hit performance against John Melvin, going 4-for-4 with two doubles to pace a 4–1 victory.
The weekend series at Xavier (LA) showcased Smith at his best. He recorded multiple hits in all three games, highlighted by a five-RBI effort in the first matchup on March 21, where he finished 3-for-4 with a double, triple and home run. Smith wrapped up the series with another home run and three RBIs in the finale.
For the season, Smith ranks among the Jaguars' most consistent offensive contributors, carrying a .374 batting average, .748 slugging percentage and .479 on‑base percentage across 33 games. He is currently on a 14-game hitting streak, as well.
He has totaled 43 hits, 11 doubles, one triple, 10 home runs and 40 RBIs, placing him among the team leaders in nearly every major offensive category. He ranks 12th nationally in RBIs and 11th in home runs.
The Jaguars are 24–9 overall and 13–2 in RRAC play heading into this weekend's series with No. 1-ranked LSU Shreveport.
