A&M-Victoria’s Zeplin takes home third RRAC Pitcher of the Week honor
WACO – For the third time this season and second week in a row, Texas A&M University-Victoria baseball's Blane Zeplin has earned conference recognition.
The Victoria native was named Red River Athletic Conference Pitcher of the Week on Monday.
This is the fourth time an A&M-Victoria pitcher has won the award and third consecutive week for the Jaguars to win the honor. Jacob Baker was the other Jaguar to win the award.
Zeplin is coming off a career-high 11 strikeouts in A&M-Victoria's 9-4 win over Texas A&M-Texarkana in Game 2 of the series. The senior threw a seven-inning complete game, allowing three earned runs to eventually power the Jaguars (16-9, 7-2) to a sweep of the Eagles.
With the sweep, A&M-Victoria remains in second place in the RRAC standings, holding the head-to-head tiebreaker with Our Lady of the Lake.
Zeplin has reached 10+ strikeouts three times this season, and he is now tied for second in wins (5) and strikeouts (45) in the RRAC.
A&M-Victoria's pitching ranks fourth in ERA (4.48) and boasts 184 strikeouts.
The Jaguars are back at home this weekend for a three-game series against Jarvis Christian. The series begins with Little League Appreciation Night at 7 p.m. on Friday, which will include an on-field ceremony to recognize Victoria's Little Leaguers. Saturday's 12:30 p.m. doubleheader will be the team's annual BBQ plate fundraiser and silent auction presented by La Lechonera Products.
