A&M-Victoria's Baker named RRAC Pitcher of the Week
WACO – Jacob Baker has continued to put together a strong junior campaign for the Texas A&M University-Victoria baseball team.
The Cuero native picked up his second-consecutive win in a 7-1 victory over Our Lady of the Lake University on Saturday to help the No. 20-ranked Jaguars (11-7, 2-1) earn a series win to open Red River Athletic Conference play. Baker went eight innings to match his career-longest outing, allowing just one run on five hits and a walk with a pair of strikeouts.
After that performance, the RRAC announced him as its Pitcher of the Week on Monday, Feb. 23. It's the first weekly award for Baker, who was an All-RRAC first team selection in 2024. He joins Blane Zeplin as the first two A&M-Victoria players to earn the award.
In Saturday's Game 3 win, the right-hander gave up a run in the first before holding the Saints scoreless over the next seven innings to give A&M-Victoria a crucial series win to open conference play.
Baker leads the Jaguars' starting rotation with a 1.91 ERA, which ranks second in the RRAC. He's limited opponents to a 0.92 WHIP over his 28.1 innings this season, a mark which puts him 13th on the RRAC leaderboard.
A&M-Victoria is back at home to face Louisiana Christian this Friday and Saturday, starting with a 4:30 p.m. doubleheader at Riverside Stadium on Friday.
